Physical Therapy for Low Back Pain

Low back pain (LBP) is the most commonly treated musculoskeletal disorder in the US and internationally. The Global Burden of Disease Study 2017 showed that the number of people with LBP is rising and that LBP is the #1 reason for disability in the world.

People report low back pain for a variety of reasons, with the most commonly seen causes being:

  • Mechanical or functional injuries

  • Inflammation

  • Fracture

  • Referred pain

Low back pain has become an increasingly widespread problem around the world, particularly in the United States. Where many of us are sitting at desks five days a week or sitting in the car for prolonged periods of time during our daily commute, it's no wonder that 80% of Americans suffer from LBP.

Treating Low Back Pain

When it comes to treating low back pain in my patients, I take a holistic approach:

I utilize a combination of approaches to treat low back pain including educating my patients on neuroscience of pain, body mechanics and posture to decrease stresses to the spine.

Combining my expertise in Pilates, yoga, strength training, and other movement systems, I curate an exercise program designed specifically for you and your low back pain symptoms.

I review each exercise carefully to assure correct technique with the optimal engagement of targeted muscles.

I utilize manual therapy hands-on techniques to correct aberrant motion in the joints and to balance the muscles of the spine, pelvis and hips.

I incorporate trigger point, dry needling and electrical stimulation as needed to reduce knots in the muscles and improve pliability.
